Travel to Otok Kaprije
The Travel to Otok Kaprije, which is a car-free island, is usually by ferry or private boat, as there is no road connection to the mainland. The island is a popular destination for visitors who want to enjoy the peace and seclusion of the Croatian islands.
Getting to Kaprije is easy and enjoyable, with the crossing on the water already part of the experience that reflects the beauty and tranquillity of this Croatian island.
Travel to Otok Kaprije by ferry
The most common way to travel to Otok Kaprije is by ferry, which departs from the mainland. The main port for the crossing is Šibenik, a historic town on the Dalmatian coast.
Šibenik is easily accessible, both by car and by public transportation such as buses and trains.
The nearest international airport is in Split, about 60 kilometers south of Šibenik.
There are regular ferry connections from Šibenik to the island of Kaprije, operated by the state ferry company Jadrolinija and the private company Miatours. The crossing takes about an hour and takes you through the picturesque islands of the Šibenik archipelago.

The ferries are generally well equipped and offer passengers the opportunity to relax during the crossing and enjoy the view of the glittering sea and the surrounding islands.

For your car we recommend the parking lot City Parking in Sibenik, because it’s only a 20-minute walk from there to the ferry port.
We always take our luggage to the ferry by car, then park the car there at City Parking Sibenik and take the e-scooter back to the ferry harbour.
In 2024, a day parking ticket cost €5.
You buy the tickets for the ferry from Miatours directly on the boat after boarding and setting off.
You can buy tickets for the Jadrolinija ferry before boarding at a kiosk diagonally opposite the ferry port.
Private boat or water cab
Alternatively, visitors who want more flexibility or want to reach the island more quickly can hire a private boat or water cab.
This is a popular option, especially in the summer months.
Boats can be hired in Šibenik or other coastal towns, such as Tribunj, Vodice or Srima, and the trip to Kaprije usually takes less than an hour, depending on the type of boat, weather conditions and departure point.
Arrival on Kaprije
The main berth on Kaprije is located in the harbor of the village of the same name, Kaprije. On arrival, the island welcomes visitors with a quiet, relaxed atmosphere.
As there are no cars on the island, luggage and people are usually transported on foot or with a small handcart, which is available at the house.
You can borrow the trolley in the following picture on your arrival and departure, provided you put it back in its place. It is parked in front of the house.
From there, visitors can head to their accommodation or explore the island directly.
The island is small enough to explore on foot and there are many hidden coves and viewpoints just waiting to be discovered.

The Miatours ferry always stops at the old ferry port.
The Jadrolinija ferry stops alternately at the new and old ferry ports:
- Stop at the old ferry port: Wednesday, Friday, Sunday
- Stop at the new ferry port: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday
Pay particular attention to this information when you leave, so that you are not waiting at the wrong ferry port with all your luggage. Otherwise you will miss the ferry!
